How to type French Accents and other troublesome Letters on an American Keyboard?

I am re-posting this post, which I slightly edited, from the following blog:

You can type the French accents and special letters with an American keyboard on both MAC's and PC's. Have a look at the table hereunder and you will know all the shortcut needed to obtain these accents and special letters.


For instance:


é option+e (Mac) Alt+0233 (PC) lowercase e, acute accent


If you want to write the letter "é" and you're on a PC, you must press the Alt key while you're typing the figures 0233. If you're on a Mac, you must press the Option key while you're typing the "e" key twice.


You may want to know that some computers are different and some formulas may not always work. If you want to know how to type these specific characters on your laptop, I would recommend you to look them up on the Internet.

Je sais qu'il est bien difficile de taper en français sans un clavier avec les caractères spéciaux dessous. Mais il est bien possible de le faire avec un clavier américain ordinaire. Pour ceci, je vous ai préparé une table avec le caractère et la formule pour l'obtenir sur votre clavier.

Par example:

Grammatical agreement has nothing to do with saying yes or no; it's a way of connecting certain parts of speech to the people or things they modify

10  Inversion
Inversion is a change from the normal word order - you'll see it in questions as well as a few other constructions

these expressions used in sailing (and possibly) in the aviation come from the Dutch language. (bakboord & stuurboord).

The "à gauche" & "à droite" expressions are much easier to use with French speakers as they may not be much familiar with "à bâbord" & "à tribord";)
